In Romania in the village of Săpânţa, not too far from the Ukrainian border, there is the Merry Cemetery inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are about 800 brightly blue colored tombstones as a sign of hope and freedom. There are other symbolic colors like yellow which symbolizes the Sun and red as a symbol of passion.

Every tombstone bears an image and darkly humorous poems related to the deceaseds life.

The first tomb of the cemetery was adorned by Stan Ioan Patras in 1935.
